The security specialists at Ti CCTV & Alarms (part of the Ti Installations group of brands) are used to their surveillance equipment keeping trespassers out of domestic and commercial premises. But in a highly unusual project undertaken by the team last month, the technology has formed a key part of trapping people in!
In February, Ti’s expertise was called upon by Danielle Wilson, founder of Huddersfield’s new Live Escape game. Together with her partner Sam Dalby, Danielle has created a high security Alcatraz-style prison environment, in which contestants will be ‘locked up’ for a crime they didn’t commit. The challenge is to solve a series of clues in just 60 minutes, in order to break free from the prison cell before the guards return.
Aware she needed CCTV cameras to be fitted throughout the room to enhance the escape experience, Danielle sought the professional know how of a local security firm. But upon discovering Ti’s wider audio and electrical skills, she found they were able to help with many more elements of the project too.
She explains: “Ti came and assessed our premises on New North Road, Huddersfield, and helpfully advised the best-fit technology for the project. And because the team has a multi-disciplined skill set they were able to satisfy not just our security needs, but our electrical and audio requirements too.
“Over a two day installation period, Ti provided a comprehensive CCTV system with surveillance cameras, microphones and speakers located throughout the ‘prison cell’. This enables us to watch and hear how contestants are progressing with their challenge. If they need help we can offer clues, but otherwise we play tense music throughout the hour long game to add to the suspense.”
When seeking a security specialist for the job, a high quality yet cost-effective service was important for this new start-up company. Commenting on Ti’s approach, Danielle continues: “From the outset they were very helpful, offering suggestions that would really bring our exciting new game to life. Their quote was very competitive, and they kindly provided extra assistance such as installing our TV and adding HDMI cabling to the trunking, at no extra cost. They had a lot of work to complete in only a short period of time, and went the extra mile to stay late and get everything done.”
The only down side for the guys at Ti, is that, having been involved in the creation of this breakout experience, they now know how to solve the puzzle! Ti’s joint managing director Kris Johnson said: “We’ve obviously seen how to escape from the prison cell, but, whilst we can’t personally take part in the escape challenge, we’ve been spreading the word about how fun this adventure game looks. It’s great that an activity like this is now available in Huddersfield!
“It’s not often that our expertise is required for a project as quirky as this, but it was a really interesting job to work on, and a perfect example of our multi-disciplined expertise adding value for clients.”
